Dear MM071-1 students,
Hope you all are having a wonderful semester break! My name is Meng. I will be the lecturer for your Digital Photography class in this coming semester.
I'm writing this email with the intention of informing you that you are required to have a DSLR camera for this class. You may already have one personally, or you can borrow one from your family/friends, or purchase a new one.
In an attempt to help students to get a camera with better price, I have approached two major camera suppliers for quotation. Attached to this email are student prices of DSLR cameras quoted by Nikon for your perusal. I have yet to receive one from Canon, but hopefully will get one soon next week. FYI, based on the past 3 semesters, Canon cameras cost a little bit more than Nikon cameras. Many of your seniors from the last 3 semesters have purchased their cameras through this channel. Of course, you can always get other brands such as Sony, Olympus etc in store, you are not required to purchase the cameras through this channel. This is an option provided only for your convenience.
Please look through the attached file and compare the prices by visiting some stores. I will elaborate more when we start our first class next week. But please bear in mind that for those of you who will be buying a new camera, take note of the prices as listed for the different cameras. Inform your parents about this in advance and let them be aware of this. The most affordable one is Nikon D40 kit (RM1585). You will need to have the camera in the 2nd week of your class, which is the week after next week.
Since you only have 7 weeks for this class, it's crucial that you got your camera in the 2nd week as you have to learn the camera functions and theory using your own camera. And there will be assignments given out weekly for this class too. You will be lagging behind if you don't have a camera by the 2nd week.
If you are interested and decided to purchase one of the camera, I will collect all the names next week and inform both Canon and Nikon suppliers about the numbers of camera to be purchased, and they will bring in the cameras during the 2nd week, so that you can get the camera the same day you have your Digital Photography class. The accepted payment method will be either cash or bank draft, no personal check. Please inform your parents earlier about this once you read this email. DON'T WRITE ANY BANK DRAFT YET UNTIL NEXT WEEK---I WILL BRIEF YOU ALL FURTHER REGARDING THIS IN CLASS NEXT WEEK.
