Extra Juice

In this Digital Photography class, you will be learning the basic techniques of using a DSLR camera. Shutter speed, aperture, white balance, depth of field, types of lens, manual focusing etc are some of the theories that will be taught in the class. And one needs to have a DSLR camera in order to really grasp and learn them. In this class, you will definitely need to use it every week to take pictures and do your assignments. Besides, a DSLR camera allows you to have more control in getting the photos you want compared to a consumer point and shoot digital camera.

The basic Nikon D40 camera is very affordable (RM1585), some of the point and shoot digital camera comes close to this price too. As a designer who is in the field of visual/image-making, a camera is a basic and essential tool to have similar to a computer. Although there won’t be any more classes on photography in the program, but you could use it to take pictures for other projects in coming terms, adding more credibility to your project where you can proudly say that the photos are taken by you and not from other sources such as internet. It will be one more additional selling point when you present your portfolio.

But seriously, if you can’t afford it due to family financial situation, you will probably have to figure out a way by borrowing it from a friend, relative, or purchase a 2nd hand one from senior or 2nd hand store.

If you have more questions, please come and see me on Monday/Tuesday in class.

Best
Meng
